What We Know About Rene Boucher - Alleged Assailant of Senator Rand Paul

A man accused of assaulting Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul on Friday in the lawmaker's Bowling Green home has been charged with fourth-degree assault, Kentucky State Police said.

Online real estate sites say Paul's home is worth around $500,000.

Mr Paul, the junior senator for Kentucky, suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.

The Kentucky State Police reacted to Rand's habitation at 3:21 p.m., as indicated by an official statement from the organization. Further charges are possible.

The suspect "intentionally assaulted Paul causing a minor injury", the news release said.

Police were not immediately clear on why Boucher allegedly assaulted Paul.

He's also a registered Democrat.

It is not known why Boucher was in his home at the time.

Boucher is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail, according to the Bowling Green Daily News.

KSP says the investigation is ongoing.
