Saudi Arabia intercepts ballistic missile northeast of Riyadh

Saudi Arabia shoots down missile aimed at Riyadh airport, Yemen rebels claim responsibility

Saudi Arabia has hit and destroyed a "ballistic missile" northeast from its capital Riyadh after it was launched from Yemen.

The missile has covered a minimum distance of 1,000km to reach the Saudi capital and posed a threat to the busy airport, analysts said.

The explosion occurred at the airport of Riyadh.

According to videos published on social media, smoke could be seen rising near Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport. This is the first night attack on Sanaa in weeks, according to CNN's Hakim al-Masmari from Sanaa.

Saudi Arabia's Civil Aviation Authority says the missile did not cause any damage to the King Khalid International Airport and that flights have not been disrupted.

The claims followed a report that Houthi rebels in Yemen - who are engaged in a long-running war with Saudi-backed forces - had fired a ballistic missile at their northern neighbor.

The source continued: " Selena and Justin realized it was time to grow past their history and move on". Bieber himself has stayed pretty quiet on this one.so we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

The coalition didn't name the country.

Iran is ideologically aligned with the Houthis and Saudi Arabia and other Sunni states in the region accuse it of supplying it with cash and weapons.

Saudi military forces have intercepted missiles fired from Houthis several times since March 2015, when a Saudi-led coalition launched a war against Houthi rebels and their allies after they captured northern Yemen and ousted the Saudi-backed president from power.

A Saudi military spokesman condemned the attack in a statement, saying the missile was sacked "indiscriminately" towards a populated civilian area. "Today's missile attack comes in response to Saudi killing innocent Yemeni civilians".

Saudi forces have reported shooting down Houthi missiles before.

The explosion occurred in one of the terminals of the global airport king Khalid, 35 km from Riyadh.
