Since Kool Smiles began contributing in 2012 through its program, Operation Troop Treats, the company has generated more than 12 tons of donated Halloween candy at its offices nationwide and sponsored the shipment of 1,200 care packages to USA troops, according to its website. You only need to bring your candy to your local drop off location.

Kool Smiles at 1852 Bluffton Road will collect trick-or-treat candy from children in exchange for a toy.

Several organizations have agreed to accept excess Halloween candy from kids to share with troops and veterans. "Equally important is that the Halloween Candy GIVE-Back Program provides every American child the opportunity to learn about service, sacrifice and generosity".

The dentist's office was able to donate more than a ton of candy to the troops last year, and hopes to beat that goal this year.

"We're getting a little bit of candy out of the kids hands as well as getting it to people that don't get a lot of candy all the time", Gold said. Kool Smiles dentistry will also send 200 dental kits and 200 care packages with the candy.
