Report: NFL Owner on Protests: 'Can't Have the Inmates Running the Prison'

Houston Texans owner Robert Mc Nair stands on the field before an NFL divisional playoff football game against the New England Patriots Saturday Jan. 14 2017 in Foxborough Mass

One of those owners was Bob McNair of the Houston Texans, who said that "we can't have the inmates running the prison" in regards to the players protesting.

President Trump began attacking the NFL players last month, calling Colin Kaepernick a "son of a bitch", and moved his focus to the NFL owners and the NFL itself after players not only continued their protests, but ramped them up as more players and even owners joined in.

I look forward to seeing how McNair plans on repairing his relationship with his players, because I'm sure nearly all of them no longer trust him. "I wanted to answer their questions".

The subject dominated a two-day meeting earlier this month in NY among league executives and team owners, where McNair is said to have made the comment.

DeAndre Hopkins was a no-show at Houston Texans practice on Friday.

Brown said McNair has yet to address the team.

"I let them know that number one, the last thing I want to be is a distraction to the team", McNair told Fox 26 on Saturday. "I never meant to offend anyone and I was not referring to our players", McNair wrote in a statement released by the Texans.

Hillary Clinton: Uranium One Stories "Debunked Repeatedly"
She said she was hoping Trump would "rise to the occasion of being our president" during his inaugural speech, but said "that didn't happen" due to his "dark, divisive speech".

"I'm not sure, man", Brown said. "So, if I say a figure of speech that's not socially okay I'm going to get fined".

One of the owners who agreed with Jones was McNair, who made his controversial comment after Jones was done talking.

McNair was quoted saying "we can't have inmates running the prison" - referring to the way National Football League athletes have now taken control of their platform to voice their discontent with racial and social injustice throughout the country.

McNair later apologized to Vincent, ESPN said.

Do Texans players kneel for the anthem en masse on Sunday?

McNair made his comment after Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones argued that owners must find a solution to solve the polarizing anthem issue, which he said is having a negative effect on business, per ESPN. "If you're bothered by the use of the word inmates, sorry, that's a you problem".

Kaepernick, who remains a free agent, is expected to attend next week's meeting between players and owners. We can't let you have your own beliefs.
