Reconciliation rules dictate the Senate now only has to pass the tax cuts in the budget with a simple majority, rather than the usual 60 vote majority. It would be one of several measures aimed at offsetting lost revenue under sweeping tax cuts planned by President Donald Trump and the Republican leadership in Congress.

The idea was to get more cash for Uncle Sam now, allowing for more tax cuts on other fronts.

President Trump faces a stark question as he and Republicans in Congress move ahead on tax reform: Can he come up with a plan that helps the people who elected him, or will most of the rewards go to the richest Americans?

Brady said after the vote that he plans release a House tax bill by November 1 - which is expected to set off a frenzy of lobbying as various interest groups vie to preserve their favored tax breaks. "President Trump played a key role in passage through both the Senate and House", he told FOX Business' Lou Dobbs on "Lou Dobbs Tonight".

CNBC has confirmed that lawmakers are now looking at raising the 401 (k) contribution limit to $20,000 or more. They also hoped to avoid unexpected criticism from Trump, who has railed against Republican hopes of overhauling the 401 (k) provision.

Launching last month's blueprint in a speech in Indianapolis, Trump insisted that his plan was "revolutionary" and that "the biggest winners will be the everyday American workers, as jobs start pouring into our country, as companies start competing for American labor and as wages start going up at levels that you haven't seen in many years".

But Republican lawmakers from higher-tax states such as NY are resistant to that idea.

Republicans negotiating the SALT say they have ideas to change it. Options include not making it available to higher-income filers or even leaving the SALT in place.

"New Jersey is one of the top tax paying states in the nation, which is why I've been pushing for years to cut taxes for residents and for businesses of all sizes", said Gottheimer.

Brady was expected to introduce tax overhaul legislation next week, as Trump has long promised. Leveraging anger about the end of popular tax breaks is likely the only way Democrats can kill a tax cut they hate-but at least some would like to kill the same popular tax benefits should they return to power in the future. Financial advisors have voiced concern that lowering pre-tax contribution limits could worsen USA workers' retirement shortfall. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Kevin Yoder of Kansas, Rep. Claudia Tenney of NY and Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama.

Graham said not passing a tax bill would probably lead to "the end of the Republican Party as we know it".

For fully seven years, the need to "repeal and replace" the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act - the landmark 2010 law often called "Obamacare" - was Priority No. 1 in Republican Party orthodoxy.

The almost $6 trillion GOP plan calls for steep tax cuts for corporations and promised reductions for middle-income taxpayers, a doubling of the standard deduction used by most Americans, shrinking the number of tax brackets from seven to three or four, and the repeal of inheritance taxes on multimillion-dollar estates.
