Google to remove experimental calorie counter from Maps following user backlash

Google Maps ditches automatic calorie estimates after users say it's not helpful and even potentially harmful
The feature, which began rolling out to some users about a week ago, not only displayed the amount of calories users could burn by walking when they looked up a route, but also how many "mini cupcakes" those calories are worth.
After receiving backlash online, Google has cut down a feature from its Google Maps for iOS that tracks your calories when you walk from one location to another.
Google did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment, but told TechCrunch that it's removing the feature "based on strong user feedback". Drag content you find in the Google app and drop it into whatever app is open next to it. Try using this feature to add content from Google to your emails, presentations, and notes, or even drag text from other apps to search it in the Google app. Other critics said there was no obvious way to disable it.
Google is ditching a planned feature for Maps following criticism on social media.
The tech company is facing complaints over a new function that appears when users hit the walking option for a route, which calculates what the calories equate to in mini cupcakes. Then again, many people love to eat cupcakes, not thinking about calories.

Well, most of the Android community may not know about it because it was only a test feature for iPhone users. Because of this, many feel that Google's update was inconsiderate of those who deal with eating disorders and the emotional fallout that can be revived by ostensibly well-meaning features such as these.
