Liverpool-based journalist Dominic King has told talkSPORT he "would be absolutely staggered" if Philippe Coutinho was sold to Barcelona this summer.

Barcelona are ready to mount a new bid for Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho in January, the club said on Wednesday.

'We are ready to sign Coutinho or any other player the technical staff request in the winter window, ' Grau insisted.

Coutinho failed to complete a high profile move to join Barcelona during the summer transfer window despite huge bids from the Catalan giants but nonetheless, the Brazilian worldwide could still join the Spanish giants in January.

Liverpool's problems could be made worse if they fail to make it out of the group stages in Europe before Christmas - and also if their Premier League challenge falters any further.

Sky Over Disneyland Glows Orange as Calif. Wildfires Rage
As of October 10, 2017, over 8,000 acres of land have burned with 5% containment. Residents should take note of the emergency hotlines.

That this comes in the buildup to another big game for the Reds, who take on Man United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, continues a trend from Coutinho's suitors.

Providing some clarity on Grau's comments, Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague cast doubt over a possible move.

They have, though, conceded there will have to be players sold to fund the deal.

"The Coutinho-Barcelona link will not go away", he explained. "It's going to just see how long the Liverpool owners stay strong - can they afford to not let him go in the January window?"

Liverpool were forced to email Barcelona over the summer to ask them to stop their public courtship of the player and reports in Thursday's papers claim the Reds have been angered once again by Barcelona's latest attempts to distract the player.
