"We will return American astronauts to the moon not only to leave behind footprints and flags but to build the foundation we need to send Americans to Mars and beyond".
"Here we are in 2017, still relying on the Russians to ferry our astronauts to the International Space Station", Pence said.
"Rather than lead in space, too often, we've chosen to drift", he said.
"America must lead in space once again".
"One, he wanted me to help reinspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our worldwide relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering", Bolden said.
Under the previous administration, that stepping stone was much smaller: President Barack Obama had directed NASA to prep for Mars trips by visiting a near-Earth asteroid.
For now, it's unknown how this destination shift will affect NASA's long-term plans. The first, "on the Moon", is fairly obvious.
The duo - Trump and Pence, that is - will soon choose the individuals comprising a Users" Advisory Group that includes "leaders from America's burgeoning commercial space industry.' Pence has vowed that the administration will promote a variety of educational, regulatory, and technologic reforms for giving U.S. citizens expanded 'opportunities, ' presumably related to space.
"We will blaze new trails into that great frontier". 'But now we start again'. "It means establishing a renewed American presence on the moon, a vital strategic goal", Pence wrote.
Vice President Mike Pence laid out the plan in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal and was expected to elaborate today at the first meeting of the new National Space Council he chairs.
In the coming weeks, President Trump and I will assemble a Users' Advisory Group partly composed of leaders from America's burgeoning commercial space industry.
However, it's unclear what truly lies ahead for NASA, as most of today's National Space Council meeting was big on talk, while light on concrete strategies.
White House National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said the country needs to "deter and when necessary defeat adversaries' counter-space efforts..."
Boeing is assisting in NASA's commercial crew program with the development of the CST-100 Starliner. And they're promising that in five years, astronauts could be working around the moon. Mars may be a medium-to-long-term goal, but NASA should use the moon as a jumping-off point.

Raiders quarterback Carr to miss at least two games
This injury does cause significant pain and spasm, but it is truly a pain tolerance and functional issue. The defense may have to carry Oakland because it won't be almost as explosive on offense without Carr.
