If you're already overseas and due to return to the United Kingdom before or on October 15 the Government has asked the CAA to provide new flights for holidaymakers at no extra cost.

The Civil Aviation Authority said it had launched a programme to bring back Monarch customers to the United Kingdom over the next fortnight on 34 chartered planes. "It also gives information to those passengers that have future bookings with Monarch but are yet to leave the UK".

Administrators KPMG have said 1,858 employees of the collapsed travel firm Monarch have been made redundant.

Monarch had been given until Sunday evening to renew its ATOL licence which allows it to operate package holidays, but failed to do so.

Early this morning authorities announced that the first flight to bring home 165 passengers from Ibiza had landed at Gatwick, and subsequently a second CAA flight landed at Birmingham bringing home more passengers from Ibiza.

Trump accuses San Juan mayor of 'poor leadership'
According to Puerto Rico's governor, more than 50 percent of gas operators are now up and running, as well as most hospitals. She also said she would meet with Trump if he asked her to when he visits the island on Tuesday.

"Once the company entered insolvency, the Air Operating Certificate it needs to be able to fly was effectively suspended, which is why all outbound flights were cancelled with immediate effect".

Monarch Airlines, a British carrier, has collapsed, leaving thousands stranded, in the largest such failure in the country's history.

"Some disruption is inevitable in these extraordinary circumstances", the CAA said in another tweet. "We ask customers to bear with us as we work around the clock to bring everyone home".

The British authorities will allocate three airplanes to be sent to thirty airports in order to face this unprecedented situation without imposing any additional costs on passengers.

In a statement, Chris Grayling, the British transportation secretary, described the effort as "the biggest ever peacetime repatriation".

Monarch chief executive, Andrew Swaffield, blamed a drop in profits on "the closure, due to terrorism, of Sharm-El- Sheikh and Tunisia and the decimation of Turkey".
