During his first appearance in court, on September 26, Sharif condemned the anticorruption court's actions as politically motivated.

Meanwhile, Sharif is expected to be reinstated as the chief of his party- Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) today after a scheduled party leadeship meet.

The bill was presented by Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid in the parliament where it was smoothly passed by the lawmakers.

This is effectively being seen as a move to ease Sharif into the position.

"Since Mr Sharif's children are busy looking after their mother (Kulsoom Nawaz) they are unlikely to appear in the accountability court on Monday", the minister said, adding the court should have given more time for indictment.

Pakistan's lower house on Monday passed a controversial bill allowing the former prime minister to take charge of the ruling party despite being disqualified by the country's top court this July.

The bill was also ratified by President Mamnoon Hussain.

An Islamabad anti-corruption court which is hearing the corruption cases against Sharif and his family has already fixed October 9 as the date for their indictment.

Geo News quoted Sharif's lawyer Mohsin Ranjha as saying that the former premier's indictment has been deferred to Ocotber 9, the next date of hearing and the court has been assured that Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (retd) MNA Safdar will appear in court in the next hearing.

Sharif's sons Hussain and Hassan and his daughter Maryam are co-defendants in the Panama Papers case and are now in London with their mother Kalsum, who is undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

The court also ordered the opening of corruption cases against Sharif and his family members over revelations stemming from the Panama Papers scandal.

"It had initially been decided that the media would be allowed to witness the interrogation of Sharif, but, as the daily reports, " one - including senior PML-N leadership - was allowed to set foot in the court before the former prime minister entered it".
