Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit his constituency from October 4 to 6.

A letter by the Amethi administration to the Congress district chief said, "In order to maintain law and order, a majority of the district police force will be on duty".

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Raj Babbar termed the attempt to postpone Rahul's visit by the district administration an act of "cowardice and fear".

Instead, the letter said, the member of parliament was apprised of the inconvenience being faced in maintaining law and order and providing him safety and security during the visit. "Therefore, it is requested that the tour be rescheduled on any date after October 5", the letter said.

It may be recalled that in August this year, former Union minister and another confidante of the Congress vice president, Jairam Ramesh, had also indicated that "Rahul Gandhi will take charge as the party president before the end of 2017".

The letter, signed by District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Poonam, added, "Through a letter (dated September 30), it was informed that a visit of MP Rahul Gandhi is proposed from October 4 to October 6". Further attacking the Congress vice president Tripathi said that many promises made by Rahul are still incomplete.

Rakesh Tripathi also said that Amethi may be the constituency of Rahul but since he failed as a leader to fulfil his promises. "But Rahul Gandhiji's movement is stopped...whether a MP needs to seek Yogi Adityanath's or Modi's permission to visit his constituency?" Smriti Irani who had lost against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi during the 2014 Lok Sabha election. "We never said no (to his visit)", he said, according to agency reports.
