"The appeal was sent on WhatsApp from the phone of the kidnapped student, Sharath, to his parents on September 12, days before they reported him missing in Bengaluru. In another WhatsApp video Sharath, 19, warned his parents, "They are also following my akka (elder sister), they listed all her activities, day by day".

Claiming that he had learnt about the incident through media reports, he asked Sharath's sister about the family's course of action.

The police also mentioned that Vishal, one of Sharath's friends, spent days with his family waited for any information on him before the police established a link between him and the kidnappers through cellphone records. They later joined Shantha, Vikky and had a beer before they made Sharath get into a vehicle that Vikky had borrowed from his friend.

According to police, the kidnappers killed Sharath because they were scared of being nabbed after learning that his family had filed a police complaint.

Iraq's Hakim Urges Kurds to Call Off Referendum
A curfew was imposed in Kirkuk yesterday after one person was killed in clashes between Turkmen security guards and Kurds. Barzani has vowed to keep the current "harmony" between the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi forces.

Vishal then instructed his accomplices to strangle Sharath.

Body found dumped near a lake. Soon after, Vishal visited Sharath's house to console the family. "They made a decision to take the body and bury it in a stone quarry nearby", Rathore said. The police have recovered a auto used by the kidnappers and added that investigation is under way. They then fished it out and buried it near the lake. The victim also asked his parents not to file a police complaint.

They tracked the mobile transmission tower locations from where the WhatsApp messages were generated, eventually stumbling upon the mobile number that led them to Vishal. Vishal lured Sharath, who had a craze for bikes, into the trap on the pretext of going on a ride on a high-end bike. The police has, so far, not released any statement about the motivation behind the kidnapping and how he was murdered.
