"Our focus is on restoring power to all of our customers, and we will not be moved by self-entitled politicians who are looking for someone to blame for the City's irresponsibly managed tree program".

FPL says that between hurricanes Wilma and Irma, the company spent more than $3 billion hardening its power grid to prevent major damage from future hurricanes.

Florida Power and Light reported 28,360 customers were without electricity, while Lee County Electric Cooperative said about 9,968 of their customers in Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Pine Island and Sanibel remain without electricity.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 14,130 customers in Miami-Dade and 2,890 customers in Broward were without power.

Foxconn bill awaits Walker's signature after clearing Assembly
The Senate approved the budget on a vote of 19-14, with all Republicans except David Craig from the town of Vernon supporting it. Assembly Republicans made minor technical changes to the budget but didn't address any of the Senate Republican demands.

The suit claims FPL charged $2 to $10 per month that was earmarked to pay for clearing trees near power lines and placing power lines underground.

"(Irma) affected the whole state so you know I think (FPL workers) did as well as could be expected", Lynn Strickland said.

Further outrage and bewilderment came in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma as the FPL's rules state that should its own system go down, any connected solar setups must be shut down too, meaning homeowners could not tap into the alternative power source they desperately needed despite it being right in front of them. First, FPL restores power to critical functions, like hospitals and 911 centers, and then to the most people in the shortest amount of time. On Sept. 11, when most customers were without power, the storm weakened to a tropical depression.

Georgia Power will not refuse to reconnect service to customers impacted by Hurricane Irma due to a past due bill and demand payment prior to reconnection. K-Line Construction based out of Woodstock also sent crews to the St. Petersburg area.

With Irma, the poles seemed to hold up well against the wind, he said.
