Michigan teacher assaults student for not standing during pledge

Farmington teacher accused of mistreating student on leave

A middle school teacher in Detroit, Michigan has been placed on administrative leave following allegations that she "violently" forced a sixth-grade student to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance on September 7th.

Stone had quite recently begun his first week at East Middle School, yet his family isn't sure on the off chance that he'll backpedal. Chaney says that he pledges allegiance to "God and his family", not a flag, and that his rights to express himself were violated. The following day, a different teacher allegedly berated him for the incident.

Farmington Public Schools Superintendent George Heitsch said one teacher has been placed on leave while the district investigates.

"I don't stand because I don't pledge to a flag".

"I don't feel safe going to that school anymore because I don't know what they're going to do next", the young boy said.

Brian Chaney, Stone's father, said he and his son are being vocal about the incident because they don't want it to die down.

Jury says teen in Slenderman stabbing attack was mentally ill
A psychologist testified during the trial, which started Monday, that Weier was suffering from shared delusional disorder. Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree homicide due to mental illness as part of a plea agreement in August.

"I'm doing this for me, my brothers, everyone across the state and everyone across the country", said Stone, whose parents pulled him out of school this week and are weighing their options. He said students have the right to skip the Pledge of Allegiance. He said he hopes the incident will "shake up the school district" so that "everyone will be treated equally".

"It's his choice to sit", Chaney told WDIV.

What's even more troubling about this situation is that as a teacher's consultant, the person who dragged this child is tasked with training other teachers on how to manage their classrooms.

"We are very disappointed that when we dropped our son off at East Middle School".

Stone was asked what he would say to those who are critical of people who don't stand during the pledge. Brian Chaney praised his son's ability to walk to his "own beat".

The 11-year-old has been sitting for the anthem since the second grade when his father explained why he had the choice. And after that, if anything like this happens again, the teacher should be fired and never be allowed to teach in any public school ever again.
