French soldiers patrol under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Paris police say a knife-wielding assailant tried to attack a soldier in a major subway interchange but was quickly arrested and no one was hurt

A knifeman who attacked a soldier has been arrested in Paris. The attacker turned to the patrolling soldier, uttering the words Allah is great.

" The man has been mastered, this is proof of professionalism and efficiency of soldiers of "Sentinel" in this mission of protection, has responded to minister for armed forces, Florence Parly, on Europe 1". No data is provided on the status of the French soldier.

The attacker approached the soldier from behind and threatened him with a knife while shouting slogans about the Islamic State terror group, reported French broadcaster BFMTV.

The attack came shortly before the explosion at Parsons Green station in London and hours after the French government announced changes to its anti-terrorism operation amid concerns that troops on patrol had become easy targets.

The French army's anti-terrorism Operation Sentinel was established following the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.
