National Investigation Agency raids house of Hurriyat leader, seizes Rs 2.2 cr

Day after threatening to march to NIA office in Delhi, JKLF chief Yasin Malik arrested

The NIA on Thursday raided the house of separatist leader Shabbir Shah's aide Zameer Thakur in connection with the terror funding case.

Separatists have been arrested so that they can not create any kind of ruckus in Kashmir or perhaps Delhi after of their protest march.

The raids are being conducted also at various locations in Srinagar and frontier district of Kupwara.

Sources said that NIA sleuths raided the joint residence of JKLF leader Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and his brother Shakeel Ahmad Bakhshi in Bemina area of Srinagar today.

On Wednesday, two men, including a freelance photo-journalist, arrested yesterday for alleged stone-pelting in Kashmir Valley and mobilising support against security personnel through the social media, were on Wednesday sent to 10-day NIA custody for interrogation.

Besides Malik, separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had announced to hold a dharna in New Delhi on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, NIA had conducted a raid at the residence of separatists Shabir Shah's close aide Chowdhary Abdul Razzaq in Jammu in relation to terror funding.

A senior separatist leader and member of Syed Ali Shah Geelani's Hurriyat Conference Ghulam Nabi Sumji's residence and businesses were searched at Bijbehara. "During searches, fixed deposits worth over Rs 1 crore, and lots of incriminating material, suspect financial records, property-related documents and electronic devices have been seized", the spokesman said.

"These villainous acts by the government would not break the spirit of the freedom loving people of Kashmir", Mr Malik said before he was arrested from a party office in the city.

The NIA on Wednesday conducted raids at 11 locations in Srinagar and 5 in Delhi in connection with the Hurriyat Terror Funding case.

Hardline senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest in his uptown Hyderpora residence.

President of Kashmir Bar Association Mian Qayoom was questioned by the NIA for almost seven hours on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate is likely to register a money laundering case against some separatist leaders facing investigation by the NIA on charges of receiving terror funding from across the border to stoke unrest in the valley.

NIA investigated the whole matter as a case registered on May 30 in which the leader of the Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa and banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, was named as an accused.
