Forecasters: Jose, Katia now hurricanes
08 September 2017, 12:53 | Marta Robbins
Tropical Storm Jose is expected to become a hurricane later today
Two other giant storms - Katia and Jose - have grown to hurricane levels, and now trail the calamitous Category 5 Hurricane Irma, which has battered the Caribbean and is headed toward the southern coast of Florida.
The hurricane, which formed as a tropical storm on Wednesday, was intensifying in the eastern Atlantic, following behind Irma on a similar path.
With Katia and Jose posing little threat to the USA yet, all eyes remain on Hurricane Irma. The Mexican state of Veracruz has a hurricane watch in effect and the storm is now about 185 miles North-Northwest of Veracruz.
- On Thursday, Irma is likely to be near the Dominican Republic's and Haiti's northern coasts. It's about 1,040 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, a collection of islands in the Caribbean Sea. A hurricane in the North Atlantic is considered "major" if wind speeds exceed 110 miles per hour (177 kph). So far this year, there have been six hurricanes: two major ones, Harvey and Irma; two new ones yesterday, Katia and Jose; and Franklin and Gert.

Jose has sustained winds of 75 miles per hour, and it is moving west-northwest at 16 miles per hour. Latest paths for the storm have it impacting almost the entire state of Florida, and potentially further up the East Coast into the Carolinas.
The same low-pressure trough that could stall Jose may also impact Irma's track depending on the mid-latitude system's strength, speed, and position by the time it leaves the U.S. Northeast.
The government of Antigua issued a hurricane watch for the islands of Antigua and Barbuda and a tropical storm watch for the islands of Anguilla, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis. Forecasters say Irma is bigger, faster and stronger than Hurricane Andrew. It is expected to make landfall in Mexico as a Category 2 hurricane, according to the National Weather service.
However, parts of south Florida and the Keys are already under an official watch as the first of the tropical storm winds from Irma are expected to kick up on Saturday, CNN is reporting.

This game and the one on Sunday night between the Texas A&M Aggies and the UCLA Bruins definitely had us on the edge of our seats. The only other time a Florida State quarterback started as a true freshman was in 1985 when Chip Ferguson faced Miami.
