The news of Osweiler's imminent signing in Denver came just hours after Mike Klis of 9news.com reported that the Broncos were planning to "zero in" on Osweiler once he officially became a free agent.

General manager John Elway said Osweiler will be the backup "until Lynch gets healthy", and the Broncos will re-evaluate their quarterback situation at that time.

Osweiler provides an experienced relief option behind Trevor Siemian, having broken into the National Football League in 2012 as a second-round pick under Mike McCoy, who was then in his first stint as the Broncos' offensive coordinator. "That didn't weigh into my decision whatsoever". Any façade he would be the Browns' Week 1 starter went away pretty quickly in favor of rookie DeShone Kizer, and Osweiler was cut on Friday afternoon.

Heat Wave Kicks Off Labor Day Weekend in San Diego
Smoke from nearby wildfires will also linger to start the day but south winds may help to improve conditions later in the day. High temperatures in the desert included 116 degrees in Palm Springs, 114 degrees in Thermal and 113 degrees in Indio.

"When Brock made that decision [to sign with Houston], he made the best decision that he thought was best for him", Elway told reporters Saturday night. Osweiler's deal with the Broncos is pending a physical on Monday. The Broncos gambled on Paxton Lynch with a first-round pick in the 2016 draft, but that gamble didn't pay off.

Houston traded Osweiler to Cleveland in the 2017 offseason, and he spent the last four months battling for the starting job with a cluster of young quarterbacks. (They shipped a fourth rounder to the Texans in the deal).

The Browns acquired the much-maligned signal caller from the Houston Texans back in March as a means of also bringing aboard a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and a second-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Browns still will owe Osweiler approximately $15.225 million. Eighteen months later, we now know that Elway was definitely right about that, and Elway is now going to get the quarterback he originally wanted at a bargain.
