talkRADIO reporter Alex Dibble is at the scene and says many of those present believe the projectile may have been fired by a child, possibly by mistake.
Surrey cricketer Stuart Meaker tweeted: "Well ... we have just officially gone off the field because a metal tipped arrow just landed on the pitch!"
Surrey CCC chief executive Richard Gould praised The Oval's security staff and the umpires for their quick response to the incident. The umpires dealt with it very well.
THE world famous Oval cricket ground was evacuated and players forced to flee the pitch when a CROSSBOW BOLT was sacked into the ground in the middle of a match. Surrey vice-captain Rory Burns, stationed at orthodox midwicket, was the closest player to the bolt when it landed. It is a deadly weapon for sure, if it had hit someone it would have caused some serious damage.
Fans were urged to take cover and move inside after the incident, and the County Championship fixture may see no further play.
