North Korea fires

North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles Saturday, the USA military said, reviving tensions with Washington after President Donald Trump had said Pyongyang was starting to show some "respect".

South Korea's president, Moon Jae-in, had been informed, Yonhap said.

Two of the missiles flew about 150 miles while the other one appears to have blown up nearly instantly.

The missile test capped yet another eventful week on the Korean peninsula, which began with the annual US-South Korea military exercises.

"We hope that this is the beginning of this signal that we've been looking for - that they are ready to restrain their level of tensions, they're ready to restrain their provocative acts and that perhaps we are seeing our pathway to sometime in the near future having some dialogue", Tillerson said.

Japan's top government spokesman says there is no direct threat to Japan following North Korea's latest test-launch of three short-range missiles.

North Korea on Saturday fired unidentified projectiles toward the Sea of Japan, South Korea's defence ministry said, as a US-South Korea joint military exercise is under way.

The U.S. State Department did not immediately comment about the Saturday missile launches.

North Korean state-run media said the country's military could strike the U.S. at any time and that neither Guam, Hawaii nor the USA mainland could avoid the "merciless strike".

Ram Rahim verdict: Congress president Sonia Gandhi calls for peace, condemns violence
After this, thousands of Dera supporters gathered in Panchkula and resorted to violence after the sentence was pronounced. Outside, tens of thousands of his supporters were massed along with thousands of security personnel.

The firings come after the United Nations agreed to impose costly economic sanctions on the country.

At the time of the tests, North Korean state media showed leader Kim Jong Un overseeing a special forces operation which simulated strikes on South Korean islands, Ripley said.

"They could be ballistic missiles but they could be rockets".

"We understand that today's action indicated North Korea consistently continues developing nuclear weapons and missiles".

North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests and dozens of missile tests since the beginning of a year ago.

North Korea's ICBM launches last month triggered an intense warning by Trump that Washington could rain "fire and fury" on the North.

The North American Aerospace Command (NORAD) determined the missiles "did not pose a threat to North America".

Xi made the remarks in a congratulatory message sent to Moon on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-South Korea diplomatic relations, Xinhua news agency reported.
