Superdome officials offer up venue for Houston LSU, BYU game

LSU/BYU Game Could Change Venues

The Tigers are scheduled to open the season in Houston's NRG Stadium against BYU.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said through an LSU-sponsored radio show Sunday night that "It most certainly, very certain, nearly certainly will be moved to another venue". The city of New Orleans was quick to offer the Superdome as venue for the game.

The LSU page for SEC Country reported that there has been no damage to the stadium in Houston and the game is still expected to be played Saturday.

But there could be others. The stadium hosts Florida-Michigan on Saturday and BYU doesn't allow its athletics teams to play on Sunday.

Both the Superdome and NRG Stadium are run by the same management company, SMG. Both sides are reportedly committed to playing Saturday as BYU's school policy prohibits playing on Sundays.

Officials from ESPN, which owns the rights to the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff game, have been working over the last 48 hours to come up with a solution.

Alamodome (San Antonio): The Alamodome is now scheduled to play host to Houston vs. UTSA, but reports on Sunday said this game is in flux. The stadium is looking into what they can do. "We are standing by".

The game is set to be held in Houston, but could be moved due to heavy flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey.

"On the game, I totally trust Joe and the administration", he said.

He said the dome would need to know by Tuesday in order to staff the game. It is not LSU's game. The game is now scheduled to be played in Houston's NRG Stadium as part of the Advocare Texas Kickoff, but the venue is now being used to stage emergency operations and offer relief to those affected by the storm.
