Allo for web looks to be about to launch with new link in app sidebar

Allo for Web Launch Sure Seems Imminent (UPDATED: LIVE!)

Google's inability to add missing areas back at a timely rate hasn't helped the matter but today the company finally launched the first version of a web client. Now, several months later, it's gone live.

The web version of Allo somewhat uses a similar pairing process with WhatsApp. You'll need an Android phone.

While reports of Allo's launch for desktop users surfaced first in February this year, the firm revealed that the app can now be used only by Android users, by scanning a QR code on their phones. Thanks to the integration of a dedicated AI assistant, it uses smart features to quickly suggest replies so you don't have to type out a full message. The sort of bad news is that you can only do so if you use an Android device to access the mobile app. The smart messaging application will let you chat with your friends with many features like stickers, smart replies and much more.

Go to allo.google.com/web on the PC. Just like Chrome, Allo also allows incognito mode for conversations allowing the user to set them to expire and have private notifications. But there's a caveat. It only works through the Chrome browser. I am on version 15 of the Allo app and I was thinking that I'd need to be on 16 in order to get it but that wasn't the case. However, it is important to note that the service is only available for Android users, while the iOS availability will be rolled out soon, the website indicates.

Not so long ago, Google Duo, another app that was launched alongside Allo and specifically handles voice and video calls, clocked the 100 million mark in terms of Play Store downloads. Amit Fulay, Allo's head of product, later said in July that the web version would launch in a "few more weeks".
