Mourinho: Man Utd having conversations over Ibrahimovic return

Manchester United's Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho gives his instructions during the UEFA Super Cup football match against Real Madrid

"We'll win the league this year", Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand opined an hour after seeing the Europa League winners outclassed by Real Madrid in Tuesday's Super Cup in Skopje.

Crerand believes so and if United start well against West Ham United on Sunday and continue to prosper in a fixture list that doesn't throw up the best teams early on, confidence will soar.

And now it appears there is a way back at United, with Mourinho's comments suggesting he will be given the chance to return to the club.

"And, last season, that didn't happen much - we were focused on the goals that our striker was scoring, and when the striker was not scoring, the team was in a bit of trouble to win matches".

"He was very clear, by showing what he did past year, that it was not enough for him", Mourinho told reporters on Friday.

"What would it mean for me to be the Premier League champion?"

The Red Devils haven't been quite as busy as some of their Premier League rivals in terms of recruitment this summer, but have still managed to secure the signings of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic - spending over £100m in the process. "I think it is the objective of every one of the top teams and every one of the top team managers", Mourinho said. "But I think naturally a manager in the second season knows the club and players better".

Trump goes after Blumenthal: 'He was a phony Vietnam con artist'
Instead he said plainly that he had misspoken, and he apologized in a normal tone of voice, not by "crying" and "begging". Trump wrote similar tweets about Blumenthal in February during the nomination of now-Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

"It is hard job to play against a team that dominates the possession - and he tried", Mourinho said of his striker.

The season was only considered a success because of the three secondary trophies Mourinho delivered.

"Arsenal and Everton, they are in the Europa League".

"We had three players as you know, one defender, one midfielder and one attacking player but for this beginning of the season we lost important players too, we lost [Marcos] Rojo, [Ashley] Young, [Luke] Shaw, Zlatan, we lost players for injuries so I think between the players we lost and we got we are in a similar situation", he said.

This is, after all, what the majority thought this time previous year.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic said: "It's not ideal playing there first game of the season, but on the other hand, it is brilliant and one of the greatest away games in the league".

"I understand the reality of the market, the numbers and my club by doing 75 per cent of what I asked, the club did well". The top seven, we are all in Europe.
