Police: Professor and British man wanted in murder detained
Authorities in California arrested a Northwestern University professor and an Oxford University employee wanted in the murder of a 26-year-old hairdresser in Chicago, police said. Chicago police described Lathem and Warren as armed and risky, although authorities said that they surrendered without incident in California.
Chicago police say the 56-year-old Warren, who lives in England, came to the US recently for the first time. Warren has been suspended from his post as the senior treasury assistant at Somerville College, Britain's Oxford Mailreports.
Michael McCloud, fugitive taskforce commander with the US Marshals Service, said the surrender of the two suspects was "negotiated", however he declined to say how.
Cornell-Duranleau - who had a certification in cosmetology and moved to Chicago in 2016 - was found with multiple stab wounds in Lathem's 10th-floor apartment in Chicago at around 8.30pm (3.30am BST) on 27 July.
Chicago authoritites have revealed on August 4 that a video has surfaced in which Lathem reportedly apologized to friends and family for his alleged involvement in Cornell-Duranleau's death.
"We are also thankful both men are safely in custody and this did not end in further tragedy", the statement said.
"Police said they suspect Lathem fled with Warren".
"They knew the seriousness of the charges, the seriousness of the case and how important it was that he be brought into custody, not have to live a life on the run", Conroy said. It was not immediately clear if he if he knew either Mr. Lathem or their alleged victim prior to last week's fatal stabbing.
Authorities haven't disclosed a possible motive for the killing.
United Kingdom police have confirmed Mr Warren was reported missing on July 25 having left the United Kingdom the day before.
The pair had been named as suspects in the attack that was so brutal the blade of the knife used in the murder had broken off, police said. Officers were dispatched to the scene after an employee at the front desk in Lathem's apartment building called police to report receiving an anonymous call that a crime had been committed in Lathem's apartment.
While there, one of them made a $1,000 (£766) cash donation to the public library there in Cornell-Duranleau's name.

China to Trump: stop with the "emotional venting" on Twitter
There is no getting away from the fact that China can and should do more to pressure the North to curb its nuclear program. Suggestions that the United States could force a regime change in North Korea have also only further inflamed tensions.
