Rahul visits flood-hit district of Assam
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is on a brief visit to flood-hit Banasakantha district of Gujarat, was shown black flags while his vehicle was pelted with stones by the locals on Thursday.
Rahul is first expected to go to Rajasthan, which was also lashed by torrential rain last week, before touring some of the worst affected areas in Gujarat's Banaskantha and Patan districts. The Congress blamed the incident on the state's ruling BJP. The stones damaged the window panes of the auto in which Rahul Gandhi was travelling.
The spokesperson also said: "Rahulji is an SPG protectee".
From Lakhimpur, Rahul Gandhi flew to Silchar to attend the funeral of Congress veteran Santosh Mohan Deb who died on Wednesday. An attack under Gujarat BJP Govt's watch reflects not only serious lapse but tacit complicity. This is being deliberately done by the BJP to create an atmosphere of fear in the state of Gujarat just before the assembly elections. "It is yet another example of intolerance exhibited by BJP and its workers openly", Azad said.
The Congress leader stated that the government must ensure that those flood-hit who were yet to receive any relief and compensation must be provided with the same immediately.
Extolling the BJP, Shah said with BJP coming to power the country has moved towards development. "This is absolutely false. I don't think BJP is behind this", reportedly said BJP MP Jagdambika Pal.
Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani in a series of tweets vent out his anger after the Congress blamed the BJP government for the attack on Rahul Gandhi's convoy. The MLAs themselves could not visit the area since they are in a luxury resort in Bengaluru.
