First case of sexually transmitted Zika in Florida confirmed by Florida Health Department

The virus lingers in the blood stream and saliva for up to two weeks after infection and remains in fluids like semen for months. But NIH scientists confirm a kiss is not dangerous

The state's first locally transmitted case of Zika virus in 2017 has been confirmed in Pinellas County.

The person has not traveled recently, but the person's partner recently traveled to Cuba and later tested positive for Zika, officials said.

The person was ill and tested positive for Zika.

Officials want to warn the public to take precautions if you or your partner traveled to an area where Zika is active.

In response to this case, appropriate mosquito reduction activities have been initiated. Zika virus is among the viruses spead by the species. The Zika virus can cause mild symptoms in those it infects, but it's especially risky to unborn fetuses by causing microcephaly, a birth defect in babies associated with neurological disorders and an underdeveloped head. The only confirmed local cases all were associated with exposure to Zika previous year, CBS/AP reported.

Confirmed: Manchester United side to play Valerenga
The Belgian worldwide is wanted by Turkish giants Galatasaray, who have made an enquiry as to the availability of the midfielder. Fellaini has travelled with the United squad for their pre-season match in Oslo , Norway .

A new study with monkeys suggests that Zika doesn't appear to be transmitted through saliva. Furthermore, Zika virus has been detected in the semen of men exposed to the virus in seven separate studies.

The Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department is participating in a mosquito surveillance program to ensure insects carrying the virus aren't in West Michigan.

The majority of the 118 reported cases of Zika infection in Florida during 2017 have been related to travel to infected areas.

However, all three monkeys who had high-dose virus applied directly to their tonsils in the absence of saliva got infected (though the infection took slightly longer to develop than in monkeys infected under their skin), the researchers said.

The mosquito-borne Zika virus may not be as big a threat now as it was this time past year, but the Ministry of Health in Jamaica is still on guard. It is also important to reduce the chance of sexual transmission by using condoms.
