From Gujarat to Bengaluru Jittery Congress resorts to golf resort

Gujarat Congress MLAs-PTI

But the MLAs, who were flown from Ahmedabad on Saturday morning, are getting "restive" with their mobiles taken away and jammers installed, party sources said.

On the controversy over flying off the MLAs to Bengaluru and making them stay in a resort while people in Gujarat were bearing the brunt of the floods, he said the party did not take this call but it was a collective decision by the legislators. Ahead of the crucial Rajya Sabha elections, six Congress MLAs in Gujarat have already quit with three joining the Bhartiya Janta Party. The Congress wanted the high powered committee to afford opportunity to all the MLAs who have been approached directly and indirectly with inducements of money and positions by the BJP, so that the allegations are duly recorded and substantiated for actions in accordance with law. "We want to go back to our constituencies as they are flood-hit and our people are affected", one of the legislators was heard telling their manager Naresh Rawal in Gujarati", a party spokesperson told IANS on the condition of anonymity.

After Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala demanded that the Election Commission (EC) lodge a criminal case against the BJP for poaching its MLAs using "money and muscle" power, the poll body reportedly sought a report from the Gujarat Chief Secretary, Indian Express reported.

He added that besides the 44 MLAs present in Bengaluru, seven other legislators are also in contact with the party as "their conscience is awakening". Others, who have not joined are Raghavji Patel of Jamnagar South Seat and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja of Jamnagar North seat. "There is no need for us to stay here (Bengaluru) for even a minute if they (BJP) say, they won't threaten", Gohil said. We are living like a family.

The BJP has fielded party president Amit Shah, Union minister Smriti Irani and former Congress MLA Balwantsinh Rajput who joined the BJP on Thursday.
