Trump says John Kelly to be new WH chief of staff

White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci speaks to members of the media outside the White House on Tuesday
In April, Kelly bluntly challenged members of Congress critical of the Trump administration's aggressive approach to immigration enforcement to either change the laws or "shut up".
He has been engaged in a long-running feud with Mr Priebus, who reportedly blocked him from being appointed to President Trump's senior team immediately following the election - despite him having sold off his company, SkyBridge Capital, in anticipation of such a role.
Now, after Trump communication director Anthony Scaramucci told a reporter he was prepared to fire everyone in the press shop, White House aides who are more closely associated with the party than with Trump world are anxious about who is next.
In a separate tweet, Trump said he thanked Priebus "for his service and dedication to his country".
"It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve this President and our country".
"I am always going to be a Trump fan".
The last general to serve as White House chief of staff was Alexander Haig, a former U.S. Army general who served under President Richard Nixon.
"He is a Great American and a Great Leader", Trump said.
Kelly's experience as Homeland Security secretary and a veteran of three tours in Iraq - along with a sobering family tragedy - suggests he'll be a loyal manager for Trump when he starts the job Monday. "I can't think of a better person than General John Kelly to succeed me and I wish him God's blessings and great success", he said. Kushner has described him to associates as the kind of figure he'd like to see have more say in the administration.
The event that triggered the beginning of the end for Mr Priebus was the hiring of Mr Scaramucci as communications director.
Curtis Granderson doesn't want Lucas Duda to leave Tampa entered Thursday's games a half-game behind the Royals, and 1 1/2 games behind the Yankees for the two wild-card spots. Top prospect Amed Rosario is slated to arrive first, shortly after the trade deadline. "They're in the hunt", Duda said.
Priebus' 189-day tenure was the shortest in modern history for a White House chief of staff. Apparently, Ball is not quite as sold on the Washington political lifestyle as Scaramucci, 53.
Both Priebus and Spicer were part of the Republican National Committee, and the bridge that linked the party to Trump.
Priebus has been under fire for weeks, seeing one White House ally after another resign or leave, culminating in the recent departure of press secretary Sean Spicer. Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general, was forced from his post less than a month into the administration, a result of misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his interactions with Russians.
It's worth noting, though, that unlike with those other officials, Kelly won't be crafting or setting public policy. The president eventually emerged, umbrella in hand, and delivered a brief statement on the runway as driving rain poured.
Trump made the announcement via Twitter.
Scaramucci was the latest top aide to be granted a direct line to Trump, and it became increasingly unclear who actually reported to Priebus. Two people close to Trump who are widely expected to be hired: Corey Lewandowski, former campaign manager, and David Bossie, former deputy campaign manager.
"Everyone who is an RNC staffer assumes their number may be up", said a Republican with close ties to the White House.
It would appear that this different direction is John Kelly, Donald Trump's pick to replace Priebus.
Priebus and other officials thought Scaramucci was unqualified for the job, and had blocked him from previous efforts to join the White House.
Even before joining Trump's cabinet as secretary of Homeland Security, Kelly was Trumpian in his own way.
In latest White House shake-up, Priebus is out
Other RNC allies brought aboard included Spicer and Kate Walsh, who became deputy White House chief of staff. The former chief of staff declined to speak with reporters traveling with the president after returning.
