Toyota EVs With Long-Range Solid-State Batteries Due 2022

Report: Toyota electric car to use solid-state battery, arrive in 2022
Toyota Motor Corp is working on an electric auto powered by a new type of battery that significantly increases driving range and reduces charging time, aiming to begin sales in 2022, the Chunichi Shimbun daily reported on Tuesday. The new EV will reportedly go on sale in Japan first.
For many years, Toyota believed plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are the future, but last year the company made a decision to switch its focus on completely electric vehicles. Toyota thinks the biggest of these hurdles is the current battery technology, and it intends to change that.
Toyota has not commented on Chunichi Shimbun's report directly, but a company spokeswoman told Reuters that Toyota seeks to commercialize solid-state batteries by the early 2020s.
Auto companies caught refitting faulty airbags When the airbag is deployed, it can explode and launch metal shards which have penetrated people's eyes, face, neck, and chest. Sims says vehicle manufacturers believe there is now sufficient stock available for affected cars to be fixed.
The vehicle will use all-solid-state batteries, which can be recharged in just a few minutes.
Whether Toyota will be able to leapfrog its rivals remains to be seen, however, as mass production requires a far more stringent level of quality control and reliability. The slowly dropping costs of EVs are, of course, tied to the dropping costs of battery manufacture, but batteries remain the single most expensive component in EVs.
In the past Toyota hasn't been very supportive of fully electric vehicles and instead chose to push its energy towards fuel cell vehicles, like the Mirai. (TSLA) who have been working on long-range electric vehicles for years and already have products on the market.
