I'm not surprised it's a disappointment.

A great film from the period is Die bleierne Zeit (English title Marianne and Juliane), directed by Margarethe von Trotta. The two sisters in the film take different paths toward social change, one as a terrorist and the other as a reporter, which serves to raise questions about their professions rather than glorify them abjectly. Great film about postwar Germany from the 40s through the 60s, and it sounds like Meinhof's character in this film was an aggregation of the two sisters.

Von Trotta also directed, with Volker Schlöndorff, an adaptation of Heinrich Böll's The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, which is quite good although nowhere near as good as the original novella.

I really enjoyed The Baader Meinhof Complex. It's a very intense film. It's hard to believe those things actually happened. Highly recommended

Che Guevara was a cold blooded marxist, giving birth to a revolution in Cuba, that continues to imprison journalists, poets, and critics.

I admire his zeal, but I'll never wear that t shirt

Mandela was a revolutionary as well, but gave birth to a democracy in South Africa.
