The Violin is Tired of Lemons

Clayton Hurt and Alvaro Perez show their studio scrap assemblages in the project room at 500x through October 4. Below, the artists weigh in on their work.

This work is a collection of small objects that have been separated from studio trash, manipulated in ways many times until they finally arrive as finished works of art. This project room show has given Alvaro and myself the opportunity to exhibit our scrap objects similar to how we did in graduate school. Things that do not work out are not always bad, they lend themselves to new areas of exploration and levels of existence.

Scrap! Most of the individual parts used in this work were originally intended for use as flight simulator components for foreign and domestic militaries. By virtue of me not meeting the two thousanths of an inch tolerance for error mandated by my employer, they have instead been afforded the opportunity to exist as works of art in a gallery.
